I'm going to be a Cal-29 owner myself shortly and I spent the afternoon browsing your work - amazing job! I know I will have some re-coring to do in a few spaces from sounding the deck. Where did you get the balsa coring?
Just wanted to say I have really enjoyed your updates. I have a cal 29 also and did very similar work. I recored the deck. I also ended up replacing all cabinets and bulkheads. I I never really finished, but my boat has been sailable for most of the project. In case anyone is interested, here is a link to how you can lower the mast on a cal 29 w/o a crane. i think if you skip to about a min, that is when we lower it. I have to admit, it is a little scarey.

ReplyDeleteCan't wait to start on mine!
I got it from defender and used 1/2 inch
DeleteJust beware as with the old plywood core the water traveled the full length of each piece
